This type was struck for the Kingdom of Hejaz, now the western part of Saudi Arabia, in the early 1920's. The coinage of Hejaz was initially comprised of countermarked coins from Turkey and Maria Teresa Thalers, with later regular issues until Hejaz was conquered by Saudi Arabia.

Ali, 1916-1924, AE ¼ piastre, Makka, AH1334 year 8, virtually unknown in this quality, NGC graded MS-63, ex. Bseiso collection." The second specimen was lot 23021 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2020), where it sold for $115. The catalog description[2] noted, "HEJAZ. 1/4 Piastre, AH 1334 Year 8 (1915/6). PCGS MS-62 Red Brown Gold Shield. Minor edge clip at 6 o'clock. Even color with the faintest traces of mint red. Above average for this crude type."
