Künker sale 354, lot 5729

This specimen was lot 5729 in Künker sale 354 (Osnabrück, Germany, September 2021), where it sold for €460 (about US$640 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG UND LÜNEBURG, BRAUNSCHWEIG-LÜNEBURG, FÜRSTENTUM, Georg III. 1760-1820. 2/3 Taler 1779, Clausthal. Prachtexemplar. Vorzüglich-Stempelglanz. Aus der Sammlung eines Ingenieurs. Exemplar der Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 77, Osnabrück 2002, Nr. 2210. (Germany, duchy of Brunswick-Luneburg-Calenberg-Hannover, two-thirds thaler of 1779, Clausthal mint. Choice example, extremely fine to uncirculated.)"

This type was struck 1772-1800 and is fairly common. A closely related type (KM 371) shows the arms on the reverse supported by a lion and unicorn. Gulden exist with the wild man reverse (KM 347) or the value reverse (KM 341) but are catalogued as 24 mariengroschen.
