Hannover 1775-LCR 1/3 thaler
This specimen was lot 25071 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $480. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. 1/3 Taler (12 Mariengroschen), 1775-LCR. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg III (George III of Great Britain). PCGS MS-63. A stunning, crisp, and Choice minor denomination, this impressive specimen radiates with intense brilliance and presents a subtle golden-cabernet tone dancing around the devices--a further testament to its resounding eye appeal. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1762-84 and is common. The twelve mariengroschen, also worth one-third thaler, was not coined after 1714 in Hannover.
