Künker sale 386, lot 5221

This specimen was lot 5221 in Künker sale 386 (Osnabrück, March 2023), where it sold for €2,000 (about US$2,585 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"BRAUNSCHWEIG-CALENBERG-HANNOVER, AB 1692 KURFÜRSTENTUM HANNOVER, Georg III. 1760-1820. Reichstaler 1774, Clausthal. R Feine Patina, vorzüglich. Exemplar der Slg. Friedrich Popken, Auktion Fritz Rudolf Künker 223, Berlin 2013, Nr. 299. (electorate of Hannover, George III, 1760-1820, thaler of 1774, Clausthal mint. Rare, fine patina, extremely fine.)"

This bust thaler was struck 1773-76, 1779-86, 1791-97 and is expensive despite the many years of production. Other thalers for 1774 include KM 354 (wild man reverse) and KM 369 ("Goodness of the Lord" mine).
