Stack's Bowers September 2023 Collector's Choice sale, lot 74577

This specimen was lot 74577 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2023), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. 24 Mariengroschen (2/3 Taler), 1774-LCR. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg III (George III of Great Britain). PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, UNC Details. A very well-struck and attractive specimen, despite the cleaning. Hints of golden toning starting to return at the peripheries of the obverse and reverse. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1762-84 for George III and reverts to the 24 mariengroschen denomination after two-thirds thalers were struck for George II. We also note KM 341 (shield/value) for 1774.
