Hannover 1773-IAP 24 mariengroschen
This specimen was lot 73622 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, November 2023), where it sold for $168. The catalog description[1] noted, "GERMANY. Brunswick-Luneburg: Hannover. 24 Mariengroschen (2/3 Taler), 1773-IAP. Zellerfeld Mint. Georg III (George III of Great Britain). PCGS AU-50. This coin exhibits a very pleasing champagne toning throughout on its deep gray surfaces. Well-struck though with some minor shadowing on the reverse. Attractive. From the Robert C. Knepper Collection." This type was struck 1762-84. There is also KM 341 (arms obverse/value reverse) struck 1761-1801 under mintmaster IWS (1757-89). The latter has a lower catalog value; we don't know if it's because it is more common or because the boring design reduces collector demand.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: silver.
