Great Britain 1997 5 pounds KM-945
This specimen was lot 71522 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $2,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 5 Pounds, 1997. Llantrisant Mint. NGC PROOF-69 Ultra Cameo. On the verge of perfection, this glistening specimen drips with lustrous brilliance and is the final issue of this portrait style for Queen Elizabeth." This type was struck 1985-86, 1990-97, as a revival of the old five pounds struck in Victorian and Edwardian times. It was accompanied by a gold sovereign and two pounds, also not intended to circulate.
