This specimen was lot 1111 in Jean Elsen sale 126 (Brussels, September 2015), where it sold for €460 (about US$614 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"GRANDE-BRETAGNE, Elisabeth II (1952-), AV 2 pounds, 1997. Ecrin Flan poli. (Great Britain, Elizabeth II (1952-), gold two pounds of 1997, proof.)"

This type commemorates the development of technology, from Neolithic cave art (inner circle), steam engineering (second circle), transistors (third circle) to the Internet (outer circle). Circulation strikes continued 1998-2000 but used Ian Rank-Broadley bust of the queen (KM 994).

Recorded mintage: 13,735,000 (bimetallic) plus est. 100,000 proofs plus 29,910 in silver and 2,482 in gold.
