This specimen was lot 24424 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $822.50. The catalog description^[1] noted, "Elizabeth II Proof brass Threepence 1956, PR66 NGC, a darkly toned glittering beauty. Very rare, a Proof of Record." This type was issued in large numbers 1954-70 but the proofs are rare. The crowned portcullis (castle gate) featured on the reverse is one of the royal badges.

Recorded mintage: 36,902,000 plus proofs.
