This specimen was lot 51120 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $1,680. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Shilling, 1956. London Mint. Elizabeth II. PCGS PROOF-66 Deep Cameo. English reverse. Tied with a single other piece as the only seen at PCGS with the 'deep cameo' nature, this staggering Gem yields immense brilliance and technical precision paired with an enchanting hue." The Elizabeth II shilling was introduced in 1953 and redesigned in 1954 to drop "BRITT OMN" from the obverse and struck in that form until 1970. Proofs are rare. Another shilling (KM 905) was struck with a Scottish crest on the reverse.

Recorded mintage: 44,970,000 plus a few proofs.

Specification: 5.65 g, copper-nickel, 23.5 mm diameter, reeded edge.
