This specimen was lot 21112 in Heritage sale 3021 (New York, January 2013), where it sold for $1,410. The catalog description[1] noted, "Elizabeth II Proof Shilling 1957, English crest, PR66 Cameo NGC, a gem example having light iridescent toning. Very rare Proof of Record, and among the finest of only a few known." In 1902, the shilling was redesigned to use the English royal crest on the reverse (KM 800). Complaints from Scottish nationalists led to the introduction of the Scottish crest reverse in 1937 (KM 854) and the two were minted simultaneously until 1970. Proofs are rare.

Recorded mintage: 42,775,000 plus proofs plus 17,960,000 with the Scottish crest (KM 905).

Specification: 5.65 g, copper-nickel, 23.5 mm diameter.

Catalog reference: S-4147, KM 904.
