Great Britain 1956 half crown
This specimen was lot 51118 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Pittsburgh, PA, August 2023), where it sold for $2,640. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 1/2 Crown, 1956. London Mint. Elizabeth II. PCGS PROOF-65 Cameo. Surpassed by just one deep cameo example in the PCGS population report, this glistening and fully robust Gem undoubtedly delights and entertains the gaze of the viewer, all while offering a VERY RARE opportunity to acquire a proof exemplar." The Elizabeth II half crown was introduced in 1953 and redesigned in 1954 to drop "BRITT OMN" from the obverse and struck in that form until 1970. Proofs are rare.
