Great Britain 1818 6 pence rev H3029-30676.jpg

This specimen was lot 30676 in Heritage sale 3029 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $940. The catalog description[1] noted, "George III Sixpence 1818, MS65 NGC. A truly elegant coin that is boldly struck, richly toned in iridescent shades of blue, violet, and golden amber, and lustrous under the color. Various die-breaks on each side add interest to the surfaces of this coin. The 1818 sixpence is decidedly scarcer than the first two dates, which are seen rather frequently. Among the best seen by this experienced cataloguer." The type was struck 1816-20 and features the bust of George III, by then subject to the regency of his son the Prince of Wales. It is the first sixpence struck under the new coinage reform that, among other things, introduced the sovereign.

Recorded mintage: 4,285,000.

Specification: 2.82 g, 0.925 fine silver, .084 troy oz.

Catalog reference: KM 665, S-3791.
