This specimen was lot 71348 in Stack's Bowers Collector's Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, June 2021), where it sold for $105. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Shilling, 1818. London Mint. George III. PCGS AU-55 Gold Shield. High '8' variety. Briefly circulated with attractive multicolored tone over both sides that adds to the allure." The type was struck 1816-20 and features the bust of George III, by then subject to the regency of his son the Prince of Wales. The 1818 is the scarcest of the type.

Recorded mintage: 1,342,000, a scarce date.
