Great Britain 1817 6 pence
This specimen was lot 40347 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2019), where it sold for $1,320. The catalog description[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. 6 Pence, 1817. NGC PROOF-63. Plain edge. Impressively bold through the designs with high rims and watery reflectivity in the fields that confirm presentation quality. Old tone, comprised of a mixture of rich rainbow hues, contributes even more to the highly charming appearance. RARE and highly coveted in this Proof format." The type was struck 1816-20 and features the bust of George III, by then subject to the regency of his son the Prince of Wales.
