Stack's Bowers 2025 NYINC sale, lot 37025

This specimen was lot 37025 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2025), where it sold for $528. The catalog description^[1] noted, "GREAT BRITAIN. Shilling, ND (1631-32). London Mint; mm: Rose. Charles I. PCGS AU-53. From the Richard August Collection." The early 1630's saw the resumption of experiments with milled coinage, which had been tried and abandoned in the reign of Elizabeth I. However, hammered coinage continued in England until 1664.
