Jean Elsen sale 147, lot 1663

This specimen was lot 1663 in Jean Elsen sale 147 (Brussels, June 2021), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANCE, Napoléon Ier (1804-1814), AR 1 franc, 1813K, Bordeaux. Défauts de flan. Petit coup sur la tranche. presque Très Beau. (empire of France, Napoleon, 1804-14, silver franc of 1813, Bordeaux mint. Flan defects, small rim nick, about Very Fine.)"

In 1806 the French revolutionary calendar was dropped and normal AD dating resumed. This type is the last and probably the most available Napoleonic franc. It was demonetized in 1869. A complete set of this type comprises 74 date and mintmark combinations, many very rare. This coin is an issue of the Bordeaux mint and is priced about double the commn date (1813-A).

Recorded mintage: 67,787[2].

Specification: 23 mm diameter, 5 grams, 0.900 fine silver, edge lettered DIEU PROTEGE LA FRANCE. Designed by Pierre-Joseph Tiolier.

Catalog reference: KM-692.8; F.205/63, Gad-447.
