This specimen was lot 1482 in Jean Elsen sale 116 (Brussels, March 2013), where it sold for €280 (about US$425 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"FRANCE ROYALE, Louis XV (1715-1774), AR quart d'écu Vertugadin, 1716 H, La Rochelle. Réformation. Droit: B. enfantin à droite, drapé et cuirassé. Revers: Ecu de France rond, couronné. Belle patine. Très Beau (kingdom of France, Louis XV (1715-74), silver quarter écu vertugadin of 1716, La Rochelle mint, struck on reformed planchet. Obverse: infant bust to right, draped and armored; reverse: round arms of France, crowned. Nice toning, very fine.)"

Quarter écus were struck for Louis XV 1716-25 but most are rare. It was replaced by the fifth écu in the great reform of 1726 that ends all the restrikes and manipulations of the beginning of Louis's reign.

Specification: 7.64 g, 0.917 fine silver, 25 mm diameter; this specimen 7,35 g.
