H61496-24043r.jpg

This specimen was lot 24043 in Heritage sale 61496 (Dallas, TX, April 2025), where it sold for $180. The catalog description[1] noted, "France: Louis XV 1/2 Ecu 1716-(9) XF Details (Cleaned) NGC, Rennes mint. The only representative presently certified by NGC." Droulers[2] notes that all known examples are struck "flan reformés," i.e., over earlier types. The type was struck until 1718, when it was replaced by the demi-écu de France et Navarre. At the time of issue, it had a face value of 2 livres 10 sols tournois. While this is not a scarce date, it is scarce compared to the écu vertugadin.
