This specimen was lot 22116 in Heritage sale 61352 (Dallas, December 2023), where it sold for $900. The catalog description[1] noted, "France: Louis XIV gold Louis d'Or 1648-C VF Details (Removed From Jewelry) NGC, Saint Lô mint." This louis d'or à la mèche longue, struck at the Saint Lô mint 1646-59, is among the more available louis of Louis XIV. It is still an expensive coin.

Recorded mintage: 1,600, a fairly common date.

Specification: 6.75 g, 0.917 fine gold, 28-30 mm diameter, plain edge, designed by Jean Warin.
