Steve Album sale 55, lot 2767

This specimen was lot 2767 in Steve Album Auction 55 (Santa Rosa, CA, May 2026), where it sold for $120. The catalog description[1] noted, "FRANCE: Louis XIV, 1643-1715, AR 1/12 écu (10 sols), Paris, 1648-A, lightly toned, heart différent, attractive tone, very rare date/mintmark, PCGS graded EF45." Shown is a douzième d'écu à la mèche longue struck 1646-60 during the minority of Louis XIV. The SCWC awards this date no premium over the common date (1653-A) but Droulers[2] prices it about double.

Recorded mintage: 31,357[2].

Specification: 2.28 g, 0.917 fine silver, 19-20 mm diameter, designed by Jean Warin.
