This specimen was lot 23484 in Heritage sale 3030 (New York, January 2014), where it sold for $881.25. The catalog description[1] noted, "Frederik VII Proof 1/2 Rigsdaler 1854 (c) FK-VS, PR65 Deep Cameo PCGS. An appealing specimen, lightly handled, with a tiny speck of oxidation on Frederik's neck. Scarce and very desirable as a proof." This two year type, like many European minors, is scandalously undervalued. After the reform of 1854, the monetary system was 96 skillings = 1 rigsdaler, 2 rigsdaler = 1 (old) speciedaler. In 1874, the coinage was reformed again to the current system of 100 øre = 1 krone.
Recorded mintage: unknown.
Specification: 7.22 g, 0.875 fine silver, .203 troy oz ASW.
