Denmark 1855-FK FF rigsdaler
The first specimen was lot 96 in Schulman auction 385 (Amsterdam, July 2025), where it sold for €100 (about US$142 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted, "Denmark - 1 Rigsdaler 1855-FF, Silver, FREDERIK VII 1848-1863 Head right. Rev. Value within wreath. Extremely fine." The second specimen was lot 74521 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice sale (Costa Mesa, CA, September 2025), where it sold for $65. The catalog description[2] noted, "DENMARK. Rigsdaler, 1855. Copenhagen Mint. Frederik VII. PCGS Genuine--Cleaned, AU Details." This denomination was introduced as part of the monetary reform of 1854. The coinage was reformed again in 1874 to a fully decimal system and this denomination was dropped. This type was struck 1854-55 at Copenhagen and Altona (shown here). The Copenhagen product bears a crown mintmark (♔) and the initials VS.
