CNG Lissner sale, lot 188

This specimen was lot 188 in Classical Numismatic Group's sale of the Lissner Collection (Chicago, August 2014), where it sold for $72.60. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Frederik VII. 1848-1863. AR 4 Skilling Rigsmont. København (Copenhagen) mint. Georg Wilhelm Svendsen, mintmaster. Frederik Christopher Krohn, engraver. Dated 1856 FK VS. In NGC encapsulation graded MS 64. Choice lustrous BU with just a hint of patina. Only one graded higher of the one year only type." Danish currency endured several "reforms" in the nineteenth century. After the reform of 1854, the monetary system was 96 skillings = 1 rigsdaler, 2 rigsdaler = 1 (old) speciedaler. This type is listed for 1856 only. In 1874, the coinage was reformed again to the current system of 100 øre = one krone.
