Steve Album sale 54, lot 2442

This specimen was lot 2442 in Steve Album Auction 54 (Santa Rosa, CA, January 2026), where it sold for $100. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK: Frederik VII, 1848-1863, AR skilling rigsmønt, 1854, mintmaster initials FF, struck at the Altona Mint in Schleswig-Holstein, a superb mint state example! PCGS graded MS65." After the reform of 1854, the monetary system was 96 skillings = 1 rigsdaler, 2 rigsdaler = 1 (old) speciedaler. The king of Denmark operated the Altona mint (orb mintmark) until 1864, when he lost Schleswig-Holstein to Prussia and Austria. Since then, all Danish coinage has been struck at Copenhagen (crown mintmark, later a heart). This type was struck 1854 only but is not rare. In 1874, the coinage was reformed again to the current system of 100 øre = one krone.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 1.85 g, 0.250 fine silver, 17 mm diameter, plain edge.

Catalog reference: KM-758.1.
