The first specimen was lot 50398 in Ponterio sale 168 (Philadelphia, August 2012), where it sold for $106. The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Rigsdaler, 1854FK-VS. NGC Unc Details--Surface Hairlines." The second specimen was lot 23709 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $587.50. The catalog description[2] noted, "Frederick VII Rigsdaler 1854FK-VS, MS67 NGC, a splendid example fully deserving of the MS67 designation with soft amber patina and full mint bloom. Certainly among the finest known and a prize for the collector of extreme quality." This two year type, like many European minors, is scandalously undervalued. After the reform of 1854, the monetary system was 96 skillings = 1 rigsdaler, 2 rigsdaler = 1 (old) speciedaler. In 1874, the coinage was reformed again to the current system of 100 øre = 1 krone.
