This specimen was lot 23726 in Heritage sale 3024 (Chicago, April 2013), where it sold for $1,292.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Frederik VII Speciedaler 1849 FK-VS, MS64 NGC, nicely toned with sharp details and full mint brilliance. Very scarce in this superior quality." In 1874, Danish coinage underwent a decimal reform and Denmark joined the Scandinavian Monetary Union. The last crown sized coin was issued in 1872. This type was struck at Copenhagen (KM 744.1) and Altona (KM 744.2) 1849-54.
