This specimen was lot 32916 in Heritage sale 3042 (Long Beach, September 2015), where it did not sell. The catalog description[1] noted, "Frederik VII Proof Rigsbankdaler 1849 FK/VS PR62 PCGS. Copenhagen mint. Mottled toning with mirror-like surfaces present. Bordering on rare in Proof grade." This two year type (1849 and 1851), like many European minors, is scandalously undervalued. After the reform of 1854, the monetary system was 96 skillings = 1 rigsdaler, two rigsdaler = 1 (old) speciedaler. In 1874, the coinage was reformed again to the current system of 100 øre = 1 krone.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 14.44 g, 0.875 fine silver, .406 troy oz ASW.

Catalog reference: KM 743.
