from the Stack's Bowers February 2025 Collectors Choice sale, lot 10234
SB225-10234r.jpg

The first specimen was lot 30075 in Heritage sale 3089 (Dallas, TX, January 2021), where it sold for $990. The catalog description[1] noted, "Denmark. Frederick III Krone (4 Mark) 1660 MS62 NGC, Glückstadt mint. A fully Mint State representative that carries light sunset tone over lustrous surfaces. A type rarely seen on auction, particularly in this admirable condition. From the Cape Coral Collection of European Crowns." The second specimen was lot 10234 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €360 (about US$375). The catalog description[2] noted, "DENMARK. Krone, 1660-IS. Gluckstadt Mint. Frederik III. NGC AU Details--Cleaned. From the L. E. Bruun Collection. Ex: Countship of Brahesminde Collection (Private Sale-1922)." This rare type is listed for 1659-60. It is a little small and a little low in silver to be a true crown but Davenport thought it worth including so we have included it as well. It differs from the regular Danish issue (KM 194.5) in having the date on the shield side.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 22.27 g, 0.671 fine silver. The second specimen is 21.87 g.

Catalog reference: KM-B43, Dav-3675; Hede-153A; Sieg-153.1; Schou-35; Bruun-6348.
