This specimen was lot 1075 in Stack's Bowers sale of the L. E. Bruun Collection (Copenhagen, September 2024), where it sold for €13,200 (about US$14,628 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,

"Lightly Handled and Rainbow Toned Example, DENMARK. 2 Speciedaler, 1661. Copenhagen Mint. Frederik III. NGC EF-45. Mintmaster: Henrik Köhler (HK). Engraver: Matthias Först. EXCESSIVELY RARE with only a handful known in private hands. A deep iridescent toning encircling the handsome portrait makes this a most attractive piece."

The king issued double speciedalers in 1661 in two styles; Dav-3545, with an interrupted obverse legend, and Dav-3545A, a with a continuous obverse legend. The latter is shown here. It accompanied a very similar single speciedaler (Dav-3546).

Specification: 57.55 g, 0.875 fine silver, 44.4 mm diameter, this specimen 56.98 g.
