The first specimen was lot 10229 in Stack's Bowers Collectors Choice Online Auction (Costa Mesa, CA, February 2025), where it sold for €288 (about US$300). The catalog description[1] noted, "DENMARK. Krone, 1659-IS. Gluckstadt Mint. Frederik III. NGC EF-45. From the L. E. Bruun Collection." The second specimen was lot 82 in Schulman auction 385 (Amsterdam, July 2025), where it sold for €160 (about US$226 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[2] noted, "Denmark - 4 Mark / Krone 1659, Silver, FREDERIK III 1648-1670, GLUCKSTADT Crowned monogram. Rev. Crowned coat of arms. Very fine." This four mark piece was struck 1659-60 in two styles: Dav-3674, with the date in the field, and Dav-3675, shown here with the date in the legend. Confusingly, Dav-3574 is assigned to the kroner struck in Copenhagen at the same time. The initials IS stood for Jacob Schwiegelt, mint master in Glückstadt, Schleswig-Holstein, 1644-1660. In the SCWC, the initials are listed as IW.

Recorded mintage: unknown.

Specification: 22.27 g, 0.671 fine silver, 42 mm diameter, the first specimen 21.83 g, the second specimen 22.16 g.

Catalog reference: Dav-3675; KM-B43; Hede-153A; Sieg-153.1; Schou-48; Bruun-6303.
