Stack's Bowers 2023 NYINC sale, lot 41036

This specimen was lot 41036 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2023), where it sold for $100. The catalog description[1] noted, "CZECHOSLOVAKIA. 100 Korun, 1983. PCGS PROOF-68 Cameo. KM-110. Mintage: 4000. Struck to commemorate the centennial of the death of Samo Chalupka. From the Whytecliffe Collection." Wikipedia comments, "Samo Chalupka (1812-1883) was a Slovak Lutheran priest and romantic poet." This specimen realized five times the catalog value in proof. The SCWC notes, "27,938 pieces, Unc and Proof, were melted by the Czech National Bank in 1999."

Recorded mintage: 76,000 plus 4,000 proofs.

Specification: 9 g, 0.500 fine silver, .144 troy oz ASW, 29 mm diameter.
