This specimen was lot 33442 in Heritage sale 3114 (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $3,000. The lot description[1] noted, "Cuba. Republic gold Proof "Playa Giron - 40th Anniversary" 100 Pesos (1 oz) 2001 PR64 Ultra Cameo NGC, Havana mint. NGC's lone occupant for this unlisted type commemorating the controversial Bay of Pigs invasion on April 19 1961." Desperate for foreign exchange, Cuba has issued large numbers of NCLT's, many only vaguely related to Cuba. "Playa Giron" is better known to Americans as the Bay of Pigs.
