Cuba 2003 100 pesos Che Guevara
This specimen was lot 33443 in Heritage sale 3114 (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $4,320. The lot description[1] noted, "Cuba. Republic gold Proof "Che Guevara - 75th Anniversary of Birth" 100 Pesos (1 oz) 2003 PR69 Ultra Cameo NGC, Havana mint. The only example graded at NGC for this Guevara type, displaying an imposing portrait of the revolutionary that enjoys thickly laden frost along a border of pure glass." Desperate for foreign exchange, Cuba has issued large numbers of NCLT's, many only vaguely related to Cuba. Revolutionary Che Guevara, safely dead, has long been lionized by the regime.
