This specimen was lot 23654 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $528.75. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic 2 Centavos 1916, Proof 64 PCGS, a choice and fully original piece with bright surfaces. Only 100 Proofs minted." The type was struck 1915-16 only. The denomination does not seem to have been popular as it was not issued again. The catalog does not record the "low relief star" and "high relief star" varieties noted for the larger silver denominations.

Recorded mintage: 5,322,000 plus a 100 proofs.

Specification: 3.5 g, copper-nickel, plain edge.
