This specimen was lot 23679 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $8,225. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 4 Pesos 1915, Proof 64 NGC, golden mirror surfaces with superior eye appeal, a sparkling example. Very rare date in Proof with a mintage of 100." This gold four pesos was struck at the Philadelphia mint for Cuba during a brief sugar boom during World War I. The type was struck 1915-16 only.
Recorded mintage: 6,300 plus a few proofs.
Specification: 6.68 g, 0.900 fine gold.
