This specimen was lot 23678 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $9,400. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 2 Pesos 1915, Proof 65 NGC, a splendid example of this rare coinage in Proof with flashy mirror surfaces. The total mintage in Proof was 100 and most survivors are well inferior to this coin." This gold two pesos was struck at the Philadelphia mint for Cuba during a brief sugar boom during World War I. The type was struck 1915-16 only.

Recorded mintage: 10,000 plus a few proofs.

Specification: 3.34 g, 0.900 fine gold.
