This specimen was lot 23685 in Heritage sale 3020 (Long Beach, September 2012), where it sold for $2,350. The catalog description[1] noted, "Republic gold 20 Pesos 1915, MS62 NGC, fully brilliant with typical small handling marks. Scarce in mint state." This gold twenty pesos was struck at the Philadelphia mint for Cuba during a brief sugar boom during World War I. The type was struck 1915-16 only to the weight standard of a United States twenty dollar gold piece.

Recorded mintage: 57,000 plus a few proofs.

Specification: 33.43 g, 0.900 fine gold.
