Cuba 1915 peso

from the Mountain Groan Collection

This type was struck in the United States for Cuba 1915-16 and 1932-34 using silver dollar blanks. Most were held in government vaults as backing for paper currency and later melted; the original mintage has little bearing on the number of survivors. This specimen exhibits the "high relief star"; compare with the 1933 peso.

Recorded mintage: 1,978,000 plus 100 proofs.

Specification: 26.73 g, 0.900 fine silver, .773 troy oz AGW, 38 mm diameter.
