Cuba 1915 40 centavos

This type was struck in the United States for Cuba 1915-20. Unlike the pesos, this denomination circulated extensively. This date is scarce compared to the post WW2 issues. The catalog records "low relief star," "medium relief" (rare) and "high relief star" varieties. The specimen shown is the "high relief star" variety, which is common. The 1916 is very rare. The sources do not state why the forty centavos denomination was selected over the more conventional fifty centavos.

Recorded mintage: 2,633,000 plus 125 proofs.

Specification: 10 g, 0.900 fine silver, .289 troy oz AGW, reeded edge.
