This type was struck 1838-46 at Popayán only. The Bogotá mint restricted itself to gold pesos and sixteen pesos during this period. This specimen was lot 40354 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $228. The catalog description[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. 1846-UM 2 Pesos. Popayán mint. AU-50 (PCGS). Attractive medium yellow gold with no problems. From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins. Ex. Houston Numismatic Exchange, June 1970." Assayer UE also exists for this date.
