This example is a 1/2 real coin struck for REPUBLICA DE NUEVA GRANADA from 1838-1848 at the Popayán mint. The initials UE correspond to the assayers. Nueva Granada was a Centralist Republic created upon the dissolution of Gran Colombia in 1830. The region held this name until 1858, when the Granadine Confederation was formed.
