This example is a half real struck for REPUBLICA DE NUEVA GRANADA from 1838-1848 at the Popayán mint. The initials UM correspond to the assayers. Nueva Granada was a centralist Republic created upon the dissolution of Gran Colombia in 1830. The region held this name until 1858, when the Granadine Confederation was formed.

Recorded mintage: unknown but very scarce.

Specification: 1.26 g, 0.666 fine silver, .269 troy oz ASW.
