Colombia 1844-B RS real

from the Stack's Bowers 2018 ANA sale, part of lot 44137

This specimen was part of lot 44137 in Stack's Bowers ANA sale (Philadelphia, August 2018), where it sold for $384. The catalog description^[1] noted, "COLOMBIA. A further trio of 1 Reales from the 1840s, all graded by PCGS. Included are 1843-RS. Bogotá. EF-45. *1844-RS. Bogotá. EF-40; 1844-UM. Popayán. VF-35. (Total: 3 pieces). From the Eldorado Collection of Colombian Coins." This type was struck 1839-41, 1844-46 at Popayan and 1837-46 at Bogotá. Nueva Granada was a Centralist Republic created upon the dissolution of Gran Colombia in 1830. The region held this name until 1858, when the Granadine Confederation was formed.
