This type was struck 1838-46 at Popayán only. The Bogotá mint restricted itself to gold pesos and sixteen pesos during this period. This specimen was lot 267 in Sedwick sale 9 (Fort Lauderdale, FL, April 2011), where it sold for $218.50. The catalog description[1] noted, "Popayán, Colombia, 2 pesos, 1846UE, encapsulated NGC UNC details, rim damage. Lustrous, looks like UNC on obverse but low AU on reverse, with edge-nick at top and natural lamination flaw at bottom of bust. Bowers & Ruddy 2/77. Dr. Frank Sedwick collection of Colombian Republic gold coins."
