This specimen was lot 24173 in Heritage sale 3015 (Long Beach, September 2011), where it sold for $7,475. The catalog description[1] noted,

"People's Republic Scalloped gold 100 Yuan 2000 Dragon, gem Proof in the plastic capsule of issue and mint box with COA #2049."

The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. A complete set is thousands of types yet buyers clamor for more. This one features the year of the dragon.

Recorded mintage: 2,300.

Specification: 15.55 g, 0.917 fine gold, .458 troy oz AGW.
