This specimen was lot 1692 in Goldberg sale 106 (Los Angeles, September 2018), where it sold for $1,620. The catalog description[1] noted, "China. 100 Yuan, 2000. Panda seated on leaves. Frosted Ring. NGC graded MS-69." The Chinese government has, since the mid 1980's, produced a mind boggling array of bullion related collectibles. The gold panda is one of the most popular. This is the last year the one ounce piece was one hundred yuan; in 2001 it was raised to 500 yuan. It was struck in two finishes, frosted and mirror.

Specification: 31.1 g, 0.999 fine gold, 1.000 troy oz AGW.
