Sedwick sale 12, lot 128

This specimen was lot 128 in Sedwick sale 12 (Winter Park, FL, October 2012), where it sold for $708. The catalog description[1] noted, "Santiago, Chile, bust 1 escudo, Charles IV, 1807FJ, rare. Low mintage of just 544 coins, somewhat crude all over (as made), including repunched lettering and weak bust, but lustrous and high grade (AU)." This type was struck at Santiago 1792-1808 in limited numbers. Tho priced low in the SCWC, it is much rarer than the accompanying eight escudos.

Specification: 3.38 g, 0.875 fine gold, .095 troy oz AGW, this specimen 3.4 grams.
