SB124-51390 rev.jpg

This specimen was lot 51390 in Stack's Bowers NYINC sale (New York, January 2024), where it sold for $576. The catalog description[1] noted, "CHILE. 1/4 Real, 1807-So. Santiago Mint. Charles IV. NGC AU-50. Well-struck and problem-free with hints of attractive iridescence surrounding the devices. From the EMO Collection." The Santiago mint experimented with several designs for the quarter real 1790-93 before settling on the familiar lion and castle type in 1796. Recorded mintage: 57,000.

Specification: 0.84 g, 0.896 fine silver.

Catalog reference: Cayón-13205, EMO-871 (Plate coin); KM-63; Cal-203.
