Chile 1799-So DA 4 reales
The specimen shown was lot 232 in Aureo y Calicó sale 232 (Barcelona, March 2011), where it sold for 950 euros (about US$1,567 including buyer's fees). The catalog description[1] noted,
"1799. Santiago. DA. 4 reales. Muy bella. Brillo original. Muy rara así. EBC/EBC+. (Four reales of 1799, Santiago mint; attractive and rare, with original luster, extremely fine to choice extremely fine.)
This type was issued from Santiago 1792-1808 and despite the trifling mintage recorded below, is not considered the key date. This specimen was lot 879 in Sedwick Treasure Auction 38 (Winter Park, FL, November 2025), where it sold for $1,140.
